Historic Villa Interior Design for Villa Yvonnette, in France

Set within Villa Yvonnette in Vichy, this historic villa interior design project unfolded inside a residence of exceptional architectural and historical value. Built in 1899 by architect Antoine Chanet for his own use, the villa is listed as a Monument historique, with legal protection covering not only its exterior but also several interior spaces and decorative elements. Its brick façade, white-stone detailing, stained glass, carved ornamentation, and preserved salons establish a context where every design decision must respond with care to the integrity of the original architecture.

Following a full rehabilitation and restoration completed in 2021, based on the villa’s original plans and finishes, the project called for a highly considered interior approach. Working in close collaboration with the clients, Greenapple furnished the entrance hall, dining room, and both the formal and informal living rooms, introducing a curated contemporary layer into a heritage setting shaped by strict preservation requirements.

The result is an interior composition where some of Greenapple’s most iconic pieces were selected to coexist naturally with the villa’s historic character, reinforcing the dialogue between craftsmanship, artistic expression, and architectural legacy.

Inside the Design

The project began at the end of the villa’s rehabilitation-restoration process, when a young couple living in Vichy approached Greenapple to help complete the interiors of their historic home. Their intention was to bring a contemporary yet respectful atmosphere into the house through a curated selection of the brand’s most iconic pieces, shaping a balanced and elegant interpretation of historic villa interior design.

Across the formal and informal living rooms, Greenapple introduced a layered composition of sitting pieces and supporting elements, including the Twins Sofa, Caju Lounge Chairs, Bordeira Coffee Table, Unfinished Soda, and the Chiado Console Table. Together, these pieces create a balance between comfort, sophistication, and artistic character, offering a contemporary counterpoint to the villa’s restored interiors.

In the entrance hall, the Breeze Art Piece and the Castelo Console Table establish the tone of the project, creating a strong first impression while respecting the grandeur of the villa’s architectural envelope. In the dining room, the Olisippo Dining Table was customized specifically for the project with a backlit Patagonia granite top, incorporating a powerbank system that allows the stone to be illuminated during dinners without the need for a fixed local power point. Paired with the Anjos Dining Chairs, the table becomes both a functional centrepiece and a sculptural gesture within the room.

More than simply furnishing a historic home, the project reflects Greenapple’s ability to integrate bespoke contemporary design within architecturally significant spaces. By responding to heritage with sensitivity, the interiors of Villa Yvonnette show how collectible design and custom solutions can enhance historically rich environments without competing with their identity.
